     Dried Cheese

This easy recipe is a great way to create training treats, or just something extra special for your pup.

    1. To begin, slice a firm cheese like Cheddar or Monterey Jack into 1/4" or smaller cubes.

    2. Spread cheese in a single layer on paper towels on cookie sheets or trays and place in a room temperature, dry, protected location where the dogs cannot get it. Run a fan on the cheese for 24-72 hours. The exact amount of time depends on the cheese, the size of the pieces and the ambient humidity. Stir the pieces daily so all sides dry evenly.

    3. The cheese is done when it turns a darker color and has a hard texture. The oil in the cheese will come to the surface. Roll the cubes in paper towel to rid them of excess oil. The cubes can be combined with kibble or other dry food which absorbs the oil and makes the food more appealing to the dog.

    3. The cheese will keep for up to a month at room temperature, depending on ambient humidity, for six months in the refrigerator or a year in the freezer

  • WINTER FUN FOR YOU AND YOUR DOG!

    Buy Now

Depending on where you and your pet live, the weather outside may be cold, snowy or wet. But, that doesn’t mean you have to remain cooped up inside and avoid the fresh air!

We’ve compiled our three favorite activities you and your dog can do throughout the winter months:

    PLAY IN THE SNOW!

Live in a snowy part of the country? Great! Most dogs love running, jumping and playing in the snow! Use a bright colored visible toy for playing fetch, or even create a fun obstacle course by building “snow jumps” for your dog to master! Just be sure to remove built up snow balls on your dog’s coat when you return home, so they are comfortable and not tracking in snow through the house!

It is important to keep in mind that winter is a popular month for lost pets, when playing outdoors. Always be sure your pet is properly identifiable with an I.D. tag or microchip.

    VOLUNTEER

While anytime is a good time to volunteer your time, winter can be a great time for you and your pet to spend time with others who may not have very much company.

Most of the time, residents of senior centers or nursing homes love the attention and comfort a pet can provide. Call your local nursing home or animal shelter to see what volunteer opportunities are available. Some pets may need to pass a behavior assessment test to make sure they are behaved and comfortable enough around others to visit a home.

    GET SOCIAL!

Just as people like to get together… dogs do too! Schedule a play date or offer to watch a friend’s dog for the afternoon. The increased activity will provide your dog with plenty of action and attention. You can even offer a dog-watching exchange so you and your pooch can get in some quality time with friends.

  • Thundershirt Resolves to Ease Pet Anxiety As We Ring in The New Year

    Buy Now

All-natural solution calms anxiety-ridden dogs and cats during loud and celebratory New Year’s Festivities

Durham, NC (PRWEB) December 26, 2012

Before welcoming 2013 with a bang, Thundershirt is reminding all pet parents that parties, loud noises and fireworks to celebrate the New Year can increase anxiety and uneasiness among pets. Unfamiliar guests, festive decorations and common New Years noisemakers can lead to scared, or erratic behavior in animals. For pets prone to noise or crowd anxiety, Thundershirt provides an effective, simple solution.

With its patent-pending design, Thundershirt’s gentle, constant pressure has a dramatic calming effect for dogs and cats if they are anxious or fearful. Anxiety experts believe that pressure has a calming effect on the nervous system and releases calming hormones like endorphins or oxytocins.

“Many times we can get so wrapped up in celebrating or entertaining, that we tend to not realize how loud noises and late celebrations can cause anxiety in our pets,” said Thundershirt founder, Phil Blizzard. “Even if a pet is not usually prone to anxious or erratic behavior, a change in their schedule or something out of the ordinary like a New Year’s party can make them uncomfortable.”

Since 2009, the Thundershirt has been reducing anxiety among hundreds of thousands of dogs and cats around the world. The company has conducted extensive research on the prevalence and effects of pet anxiety.

Thundershirt also provides some additional tips to keep in mind as we celebrate 2013:

    • Create a safe place for your pet to go during a party; this may be a crate or separate room with something familiar like a favorite blanket, toy or bed.
    • Be mindful of noisemakers and decorations in your pet’s reach. Many of these resemble some of your pet’s favorite toys, but if ingested can be extremely harmful.
    • Do not bring your pet to any firework or parade-like festivities; sticking to their normal routine as much as possible will be best.
    • The day of the festivities, take your pet out to get plenty of activity and exercise, this, in addition to Thundershirt will help them stay calmer once the festivities begin.
    • Don’t forget ID’s! Make sure your dog or cat has proper identification. If for any reason your pet escapes and becomes lost, a collar and tags and/or a microchip is key.

For more information about the Thundershirt, or to request a product sample or interview with company founder, Phil Blizzard, please contact Kerry Sutherland at K. Sutherland PR, Kerry(at)ksutherlandpr(dot)com or 949-328-4895.
